Classics
Many of these books are more challenging/advanced or have concepts that are harder to understand. One of the reasons for this is that most of these books were written a while ago. Don't let this deter you from reading one, though- if you think you can handle it, go for it! Difficulty doesn't make a book any less fantastic.
Sherlock Holmes: Series
By: Arthur Conan Doyle
By Arthur Conan Doyle, the Sherlock Holmes stories are short, fast-moving, thrilling, and fascinating. If you like brainy mystery novels with interesting characters, these stories are for you. There are four Sherlock Holmes novels and lots of short stories that you can find in books that are titled "A Collection of Sherlock Holmes", "Best of Sherlock Holmes", etc. The Sherlock Holmes stories are about Dr. Watson and his friend Sherlock Holmes, set in the 1890's. Sherlock Holmes is genius detective with many strange quirks and powers of deduction, and he doesn't care what people think of him. Each story is about one of Watson's and Holmes's crime-solving adventures and has endless exciting twists and turns. There's always something to learn with these stories, and you'll be kept guessing all the way through. Highly recommended.

1984
By: George Orwell
1984 is probably one of the most famous dystopian novels ever written. The story follows the life of a man named Winston, a prole in 'the Party', which is supposedly ruled by 'Big Brother'. Big Brother & the Party constantly surveil their citizens, and are also reforming language to eliminate even the thought of rebellion. They control every aspect of their citizens' lives. Winston begins a subtle rebellion by keeping a diary of his thoughts- this is punishable by death. Him and his lover try to rebel against the oppression no one else appears to see. Obviously, this goes horribly for them. Later in the book, you learn more in-depth about how the Party is controlling the citizens- this, and what happens to Winston when he gets caught is BEYOND MIND-BENDING. The last 1/3-1/4 of the book is absolute INSANITY. This book is famous for a reason! It was a little slow in the beginning, but the warning 1984 conveys is critical for you to know. It was the most thought-provoking thing I've ever read, in a terrifying way. At some point in your life, you HAVE TO read this.

The Art Of War
By: Sun Tzu
Animal Farm
By: George Orwell
I honestly didn't like this book very much. Many of the people I know who've read it really enjoyed it, but it just didn't do the same for me. While it was an interesting concept, it just wasn't written in a way that kept my attention. Overall, I'd say it's a book to try, but one of my least favorite books. -Allie
